El-Badry passed away following a health crisis that has recently resulted in the amputation of his foot and his stay at the Nasser Institute Hospital for Research and Treatment’s intensive care unit.
Born on 3 October 1954, El-Badry is a graduate of both the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts, Department of Acting and Directing (1977), and the Higher Cinema Institute, Department of Directing (1985).
He launched his career in the late 1970s as an actor appearing in several films and television series, and occasionally in theatre. While he embarked on directing, he continued to enjoy acting until the end of his life with the latest titles including his name being TV series Omla Nadra (A Scarce Coin) in 2023 directed by Mohamed Gamal El-Adl and starring Nelly Karim.
El-Badry worked as an assistant director in TV series such as Laylat Alkabd Ala Fatma (The Night of Fatma’s Arrest) in 1982, Akhu El-Banat (Girls’ Brother) in 1984, Zezenia II (2000), and Mafia film (2002), among other titles.
His debut as a director was in the film Modmen Hob (Addicted to Love) in 2005 written by Mohamed Fouad who also starred in the movie alongside Hala Shiha, Ramez Galal, and Khaled El-Sawy.
El-Badry went on to direct more than 30 films, including Omar and Salma 2 (2009), Game Over (2012), Gomhureyet Imbaba (Imbaba Republic) in 2015, Enta Habiby We Bas (You’re My Only Love) in 2019, and Al-Shanta (The Bag) in 2021.
The prayers for the late director will take place at Al-Hosary Mosque in the 6th of October; the funeral in the family grave also will be in the 6th of October at Cairo outskirts.
