The prime minister unveiled the curtain to mark the opening, and after the opening, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly confirmed the state’s keenness on the development and renovation of existing mosques and the establishment of new mosques in various governorates of the Republic, pointing out in this context that the Ministry of Awqaf is preparing to welcome the holy month of Ramadan by opening 162 new mosques, including 111 mosques with the replacement and renovation system, and 51 mosques that have been maintained and developed.
Then the prime minister inspected the mosque, during which he listened to an explanation from Major General Ahmed Al-Azazi, head of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, who explained that the construction work of the mosque began in July 2023, and was completed in February 2025, through the Engineering Authority of the armed forces, pointing out that the mosque can accommodate 5,000 worshippers, and is located on an area of 8,100 square meters, with 3 floors (basement, ground, and first floor), adding that the mosque was designed to contain various services that citizens need, as it includes: A house and event halls, a room for memorizing and mastering the Holy Quran, a women’s Chapel, indoor and outdoor courtyards, a clinic area, a parking lot for cars, toilets, a nursery, educational classes, and a library.
The prime minister also listened to an explanation from Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf, who pointed out that the total number of mosques opened since the first of July 2024 to date has reached 1126 mosques, including 770 replacement and renovation mosques, and 356 maintenance and development mosques.
In this context, the minister of Awqaf added that the total number of mosques that have been replaced, renovated, maintained and furnished since July 2014 to date has reached 13,207 mosques.
Dr. Osama Al-Azhari noted that the geographical diversity was taken into account in the list of mosques to be opened, as it included mosques in the governorates of: Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Beheira, Sharqiya, Dakahlia, Minya, Assiut, Kafr el Sheikh, Menoufia, South Sinai, Qalyubia, Ismailia, Matrouh, Luxor, Sohag, Aswan, Gharbia, Qena, Damietta and Suez, stressing that work is being completed on the establishment, development and renovation of mosques in all regions of the Republic.
The minister of Awqaf also pointed out that these efforts confirm the ministry’s commitment to developing and modernizing the Houses of Allah to provide a suitable religious environment for worshippers, within the framework of attention to the improvement of mosques materially, intellectually and spiritually.
The prime minister performed Friday prayers, and also listened to two Friday sermons, where the first was entitled “O Baghi of good, I accept”, and it was pointed out that the purpose of this sermon is to raise awareness of the virtues of the holy month of Ramadan, and to warn that the good seasons must be attended, while the second sermon dealt with the importance of preserving Egyptian Antiquities, preserving the natural wealth of our country, and the preservation of citizens.
After the performance of the prayer, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly was keen to greet the crowds of worshippers and conveyed to them the greetings of His Excellency Mr. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, president of the Republic, and his congratulations on the holy month of Ramadan, praying to God Almighty to restore this holy month to the people of Egypt with good, Yemen, blessings, and continued progress and prosperity.
