Upon his arrival in Beijing today, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, prime minister, held a meeting with Mr. Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, followed by an official working dinner, which was attended by Ambassador Assem Hanafi, ambassador of Egypt to China, Ambassador Liao Liqiang, ambassador of China to Egypt, Ambassador Mohamed Aboul Wafa, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for African organizations and associations Affairs, and a number of senior Chinese officials.
At the beginning of the meeting, the prime minister welcomed Mr. Zhao Leji, expressing his appreciation for the warm welcome and good reception of the Egyptian delegation by the Chinese leadership.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also expressed his appreciation for the keenness of the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China to meet him for the second time after the previous meeting that brought them together during the prime minister’s visit to China in October last year, expressing his aspiration to receive Mr. Zhao Leji in Egypt at the earliest opportunity.
Meanwhile, the prime minister stressed the keenness of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah al – Sisi, the president of the Republic, on Egypt’s participation in various major events hosted by China, noting that he participates on behalf of His Excellency in the work of the forum on China-Africa Cooperation summit.
At the same time, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly referred to the “state visit” made by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to China during the period from ٢٨ to مايو may ۲٠٢٤, his participation as a guest of honor at the opening session of the tenth session of the ministerial meeting of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation forum, and joint understandings with President Xi Jinping to agree on cooperation projects and programs that contribute to promoting the upgrading of economic and investment relations between the two countries and benefit their two friendly peoples.
During the meeting, the prime minister congratulated Mr. Zhao Leji on the occasion of the successful holding of the legislative sessions of the Chinese people’s Congress and the Chinese people’s Political Consultative Conference in March 2024, as well as the holding of the third full session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China recently, the outcomes of which confirmed China’s continuation of the policy of opening up and reform to meet the aspirations and hopes of the Chinese people.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly stressed Egypt’s keenness on the importance of strengthening cooperation and parliamentary exchange between the two friendly countries on a regular basis as one of the most important pillars of strategic relations between the two sides, pointing in this context to the keenness of Advisor Dr. Hanafi Jebali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to visit China during the period from to 19 August to 2024 participate in the sixth session of parliamentarians from developing countries and celebrate the anniversary of ٤٠ one year since the accession of the National People’s Congress of China to the membership of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The prime minister stressed that Egypt views China as an example to follow in the field of construction and urban renaissance, and that Beijing is a strategic partner for Egypt in facing the current international crises.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also stressed the Egyptian government’s support for Chinese companies operating in Egypt, as he is keen to visit their projects in Egypt, follow up on the progress of their work and overcome obstacles in front of them in a clear message of Egypt’s support for those projects.
He pointed out that the China unit was established in the Council of ministers under the chairmanship of engineer Randa Al-manshawi, first assistant to the prime minister, with direct supervision from the prime minister, to follow up various Chinese projects, which confirms the great attention paid by the Egyptian government to enhance investment and trade cooperation with China.
The prime minister explained that Egypt represents a promising opportunity for Chinese companies, and an attractive investment for export to neighboring countries, especially on the African continent, to which Egypt is an ideal gateway, noting his intention to meet many Chinese companies during this visit to discuss opportunities to enhance cooperation in priority areas.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly expressed his aspiration to support the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China for the positive developments in bilateral relations between the two countries, and to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Egypt, especially in light of the Egyptian state’s interest in the industrial sector and the localization of a number of priority industries such as the electric car industry, new and renewable energy, especially green hydrogen.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly pointed to the consensus of both Egypt and China on the peaceful settlement of international crises through dialogue and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, stressing Egypt’s support for the principle of “one China”, expressing at the same time that the Egyptian state is looking forward to cooperation with China within the framework of international gatherings, especially the BRICS gathering.
During the meeting, the prime minister stressed Egypt’s firm position on the Palestinian issue and its support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, pointing to Egyptian efforts to cease fire and provide humanitarian assistance to the people of the Gaza Strip.
For his part, Mr. Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, welcomed Dr. Mustafa Madbouly and congratulated him on renewing confidence in him and assuming the post of prime minister, and assigning him to form the new government by His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, president of the Republic.
“Le ji stressed the depth of strategic relations between Egypt and China, referring in this regard to the tenth anniversary of the strategic partnership between Cairo and Beijing, and the positive results achieved by this partnership thanks to the continuous support of the leadership of the two countries, adding in this context that the recent visit by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, president of the Republic, to China was a very successful visit, which confirms the importance of continuing fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
The chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China also expressed his appreciation for the growing Egyptian-Chinese relations at various levels, stressing that these relations are based on mutual respect, noting in this regard his great happiness to receive the speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives in Beijing recently.
Mr. Zhao Leji stressed China’s support to Egypt in implementing its sustainable development plans, including the “Egypt Vision 2030”, and Beijing looks forward to strengthening its cooperation with Cairo in various sectors, especially the infrastructure sector. “Le ji” announced the provision of a grant to Egypt worth 100 million yuan to implement joint development projects.
He expressed his support for the work of Chinese companies in Egypt and his keenness to boost their participation in many projects during the coming period, within the framework of enhancing joint cooperation between the two countries.
“Le ji” discussed China’s efforts in promoting internal reform and opening-up and the successes achieved by Beijing in this regard, pointing to the positive indicators achieved by the Chinese economy, headed by achieving a growth rate of ٥% per annum.
In addition, the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China spoke about his country’s position on the Palestinian issue, especially with regard to the need for a ceasefire, providing assistance and implementing the two-state solution, stressing the seriousness of the reflection of the conflict in the Gaza Strip on regional peace and security.
In this context, he noted that China will host the dialogue between the Palestinian factions in a way that helps to establish peace, work to unite the Palestinian side, and reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
