Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of higher education and scientific research, praised the results of Egyptian universities in the second edition of the Arab classification of universities, expressing Egypt’s pride in participating in its universities in this classification, pointing out that Egypt is the most represented in the classification, where 48 Egyptian universities were included, which reflects the keenness to support the advancement of higher education in the Arab region, and encourage competition between our universities and Arab universities from brotherly countries, offering congratulations to all Egyptian universities listed in the classification, and to the rest of the participating Arab universities, and his wishes that this competition will be an incentive to encourage joint Arab cooperation in the fields of higher education and research scientific background For the benefit of serving the development goals of the Arab countries.

The results of the ranking showed the inclusion of Cairo University at the top of the list of Egyptian universities by rating, followed by Ain Shams University, then Mansoura University, then Alexandria University, then Zagazig University.

The ranking also included, respectively, Tanta University, Menoufia University, Suez Canal University, Al-Azhar University, Assiut University, Benha University, the Arab Academy for science, technology and maritime transport, Kafr el Sheikh University, 6 October University, Fayoum University, Aswan University, Sadat City University, Future University, British university in Egypt, Delta University for science and Technology, South Valley University, and Misr University for science and technology.

The ranking also included Port Said University, Beni Suef University, Minya University, Suez University, Galala University, el Arish University, Helwan University, Damanhour University, Damietta University, Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and technology, Badr University in Cairo, Sohag University, Sinai University, Nile University, Egyptian Russian university, King Salman International University, New Giza University, Nile Higher Institute of engineering and technology, Shorouk Academy, Egyptian Chinese University, Horus University, New Mansoura University, Alexandria Higher Institute of engineering and technology, El Alamein University International, Sphinx University, Taiba Technological University.

For his part, Dr. Adel Abdul Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesman of the ministry, explained that this edition is the second edition of the Arab classification and has shown a remarkable increase in the number of Egyptian universities estimated at twenty universities compared to last year, due to the interest of the Ministry of higher education and scientific research in encouraging research and innovation, and supporting community participation of universities, which is reflected in its achievement of international standards of international rankings, which is concerned with increasing international publication rates, sustainable development goals, innovation and leadership.

The spokesperson added that the progress of universities in various international rankings comes in implementation of the goals and principles of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research, and achieving the principle of international reference, with the aim of creating a generation of researchers capable of providing meaningful scientific research to society, and be able to make a breakthrough in all fields, in line with the achievement of Egypt’s vision for Sustainable Development 2030.

It is worth mentioning that the Arab ranking of Arab universities was launched in cooperation between the Union of Arab Universities, the league of Arab states, the Arab educational, cultural and scientific organization (alecso), and the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils, and is one of the regional initiatives to measure the performance of higher education institutions in the Arab world, with the aim of supporting quality and excellence in education and scientific research, and enhancing competitiveness among Arab universities according to international standards.

About 373 Arab universities from 16 Arab countries participated in this version of the rating, and the number of universities that completed the rating data reached 180 universities.

The classification is based on 45% on the information and indicators provided by universities, and 55% on the indicators and data in the Scopus – Scival database, and the Arab classification of universities is based on a comprehensive set of criteria that ensure an objective and comprehensive assessment of the performance of universities, including four main evaluation performance indicators, each of which has 9 sub-performance criteria: the main performance indicator “teaching and learning” (30%), the main performance indicator “scientific research”(30%), the main performance indicator “creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation” (20%), and the main performance indicator “cooperation international, local and community service” (20%)
