The minister of social solidarity opened the meeting by welcoming the first lady of the Republic of Colombia to visit Egypt, in confirmation of the good relations that unite the two friendly countries.
Dr. Maya Morsi gave an explanation of the ministry’s multiple areas of work in the sectors of protection, social welfare and economic empowerment, the conditional cash support program “Takaful and dignity”, which is the largest program in the region to support first-time care families, as well as the multiple categories for which the Ministry of social solidarity works to provide services from orphaned children “sons of Egypt”, women breadwinners and people with disabilities.
The minister of Social Solidarity also touched upon the role played by the Presidential Initiative “a decent life”, which aims to change the face of the Egyptian countryside through infrastructure projects in which it is carried out, as well as the investment in people.
The meeting discussed the efforts provided by the Ministry of social solidarity for the elderly, represented by the cash support program “Karama” and the provision of a large number of care homes for the elderly for free, and work is underway to increase these roles, including special ones for people with disabilities, as well as the legislative aspect of the adoption of the law on the care of the rights of the elderly.
The meeting discussed enhancing means of cooperation between the two countries in a number of fields and benefiting from the Egyptian experience in the elderly sector, women’s empowerment and the conditional cash support program for the most needy groups.
After that, I inspected the campus of Mr. President of Colombia, the exhibition of productive families at the ministry’s headquarters, and I was briefed on the various heritage handicrafts inside, which varied between copper, tents, warabisk porcelain, abayas, leather, seashells, Akhmim products, decoupage paintings, leather carpets and kilim rugs, where I listened to an explanation from the exhibitors about these products, praising the Egyptian heritage handicrafts and their quality.
The visit concluded by renewing the minister of social solidarity’s welcome to the first lady of the Republic of Colombia for her visit to Egypt, and thanking her Excellency for her keenness to visit the Ministry of social solidarity and get acquainted with the activities and services provided by the ministry
