Dr. Yasmin Fouad, Minister of environment, was awarded the second Zayed Medal of the “first class” by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the brotherly Arab Emirates, for her role and distinguished contribution to Egyptian efforts to facilitate the negotiation process in the climate finance file at cop28, chaired by the United Arab Emirates, and within a constellation of ministers at the world level.
Dr. Yasmin Fouad explained that this honor comes as a culmination of the cop27 conference hosted by Egypt in Sharm el-Sheikh in November 2022, which paved the way for the success of the Dubai conference with effective decisions, headed by the establishment of the loss and damage Fund, and affirming a fair transition for developing countries without prejudice to their paths to sustainable development and ensuring that those countries receive Climate Finance.
The minister of Environment added that the UAE’s high medal reflects an appreciation of Egypt’s Arab, African and international status and its efforts to promote international climate action to real results that address the dangers of climate change, and in honor of her as an Egyptian Minister for her role in facilitating the negotiation of the climate finance file, representing developing countries, with the participation of Canadian Environment Minister, Mr. Stephen gilbault, and in reaching decisions to put climate action on realistic axes of international cooperation, and in successfully reaching an agreement called the “UAE consensus”, stressing that this honor is a witness to an Arab endeavor an unprecedented guarantee of ambitious and credible multilateral climate action, offering a model Great cooperation between the leaders of the two countries Egypt and the UAE
