“A strategic agreement between the Ministry of Health and GE to establish the first sonar equipment factory in Egypt and Africa”

Dr. Khalid Abdul Ghaffar, deputy prime minister and Minister of Health and population, held an important meeting on Wednesday with representatives of the company “General Electric Healthcare” at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and population in the new city of Alamein. The meeting focused on discussing the schedule and mechanisms of implementation of the local manufacturing project of acoustic wave devices “sonar”, which is the first of its kind in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and population, explained that the meeting also discussed the establishment of two simulation centers, with the aim of training technicians working in health technical institutes in Cairo and Upper Egypt. In addition, the Protocols of joint cooperation between the ministry and the “GE” company were discussed, and the future vision of this cooperation was reviewed in order to support the medical sector in Egypt.

Dr. Hossam pointed out that the cooperation with GE includes several areas, including medical imaging, Health Information Technologies, patient monitoring devices, and diagnostic tools for early detection of diseases. He also explained that the company has already contributed to the development of magnetic resonance devices in Egyptian hospitals, where it has improved their performance and provided them with the latest diagnostic protocols. The company also participated in the development of mobile mammogram units for the women’s health project, and held training courses for Egyptian medical cadres in the field of Radiology.

Dr. Hossam also stated that ” GE has contributed significantly to supporting the Presidential Initiative for the early detection of cancerous tumors, such as colon, cervical, prostate and lung cancer, through the development of magnetic resonance devices used in the hospitals of the Ministry of Health.

For his part, engineer Mohamed Haroun, general manager of GE in Africa, stressed the importance of this cooperation with the Ministry of health, noting that the company has great confidence in the investment climate and the Egyptian economy. He explained that this project represents a first step to increase the company’s investments in Egypt, reflecting its keenness to be effectively present in the Egyptian healthcare sector.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mohammed Fawzi, advisor to the minister for radiology affairs, in addition to a number of officials from GE, including Engineer Mohammed Haroun, Ms. Yasmin Khattab, head of Finance and strategic relations in North Africa and Saudi Arabia, Mr. Moataz Mohammed, sales manager of Northeast Africa, Mr. Mohammed Eid, director of Northeast Africa projects, and Ms. Aya Hussein, director of Human Resources Management and development.
