The Prime Minister witnesses the signing of agreements for the production of electricity from renewable energies and storage

Adding 2150 MW of clean energy to the unified grid… And storage systems with a capacity of 1100 for use at peak times

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, prime minister, witnessed today at the government headquarters in the new administrative capital, the signing ceremony of agreements to implement projects for the production of electricity from new and renewable energies by the BOO system with a total capacity of up to 2,150 MW, including 1,100 MW of battery storage, in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of electricity and renewable energy.

The signing of these agreements comes within the framework of the UAE’s direction and the national strategy for integrated and sustainable energy, which aims to reach 42% of renewable energy in the energy mix and continue work on updating it until 2040, in light of global developments related to renewable energy technologies, the development of energy storage systems and the new trend towards green hydrogen, and the adoption of an integrated national strategy for the production of low-carbon hydrogen as a promising source of energy in the near future.

The agreements signed today included: the signing of an agreement between the new and renewable energy development and use authority, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and EMEA power, one of the companies of the UAE’s Al Nowais Investment Group, to implement a project to produce electricity from solar energy with a capacity of ١٠٠٠ MW, with energy storage battery systems with a capacity of 600 MW per hour, in Benban, Aswan, “Abydos 2”, in addition to signing an annex of agreements to add 300 MW of battery storage to the existing project with a capacity of 500 MW solar Kom Ombo in Aswan “Abydos 1”, with investments exceeding 800 million dollars.

The agreement and the annex were signed by Dr. Mohammed Al Khayat, CEO of the new and renewable energy development and use authority, engineer Mona Rizk Ibrahim, chairman of the board of Directors of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and Mr. Akil Bohra and Mr. Samir Nassif on behalf of “EMEA power” company, in the presence of Ambassador Mariam Al Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to Cairo, and Dr. Hussein Jassim Al Nowais, Chairman of the board of Directors of”EMEA power”company.

It was pointed out that the “Abydos 2” project is expected to become the largest of its kind in Egypt and Africa, within the framework of EMEA power’s commitment to provide renewable energy solutions on a large scale, as well as its ongoing commitment to support the transition to clean energy in Egypt, and these new projects strengthen Egypt’s position as a strategic market for investments in the energy sector in general, and in renewable energy in particular, the two new projects provide about 2,500 jobs to the local community during construction, and the “Abydos 1-2” stations will provide clean energy and renewable for more than 769,800 homes, while offsetting carbon emissions by more than 2,347 million tons Annually.

With regard to the signing of the annex to the land usufruct agreement, the prime minister also witnessed the addition of 150 MW of wind energy capacity for the Orascom-Angie Alliance project – The annexes were signed by Dr. Mohammed Al-Khayat, CEO of the new and renewable energy development and use authority, engineer Mona Rizk Ibrahim, chairman of the board of Directors of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, engineer Khaled el-degawy, chairman of the board of directors, representative of Orascom Construction Company, Mr. Hans Bruns, executive director, representative of Engie energy company, and Mr. Yasuo Ryota, CFO, representative of Toyota Tsusho company.the annexes were signed by Dr. Mohamed El-Khayat, CEO of the new and renewable energy development and use authority, and engineer Mona Rizk Ibrahim, chairman of the board of Directors of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

The signatures also include the signing of two land use agreements to establish two power plants, the first from solar energy and the second from wind energy, to fuel the green hydrogen production project, convert it to green ammonia with a production capacity of about 74 thousand tons of ammonia per year and export it completely abroad, with foreign direct investments of about 500 million dollars, between the new and renewable energy development and use authority, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and the skatec – vertiglobe – Orascom Construction Alliance
